Golf Swing Drills

There are a lot of golfers who spend a lot of practice time just to improve their golfing skills; experts have created GOLF DRILLS to help them do just that. If they keep on doing these drills, it can help even those who have JUST started playing in improving the basic skills in playing golf which are necessary in performing well in the sport. If you scan through the internet, you will find a lot of drills that will help you in improving your game. You don’t have to practice everyone. The key is finding your week spot then practicing and developing that weak spot using the golf drills.

Several types of golf swing drills have been designed to improve your SWING, PUTTING and GRIP. These are some of the drills you should try to get better at the sport:

Practicing Your Swing:

Broomstick Drill – Maintaining Levelsput a broomstick on your back across the shoulders. Position yourself in your normal golfing stance. And also place a big piece of tape on a piece of mirror at the same level on the top of the head. Then, practice turning backwards using the broomstick and try to imagine that your shoulders are making turns that are perpendicular on your spine and that your spine is maintained at the same angle all throughout your swing. Then as you return back, the top of your head should be at the same level as the tape on the mirror. You must not move your head up and down. If this happens, you will be able to compromise balance needed when making a good swing in golf.

Practicing how to Put:

Putting With A MirrorFor you to see the line of your putt as well as create a good back and through stroke, it is important for you to keep your eyes over the ball. Then, if your eyes remain within the line of the putt, a motion called inside-out motion will be effected and if your eyes are too far the line, and outside in stroke will be the effect. These two strokes may destroy a good and consistent putting. So a golf drill designed to improve putting is by using a mirror and placing it under the ball. The mirror can help you in maintaining your shoulders in a parallel position relative to the target line.

Improving Your Grip:

Golf Grip – Coin DrillTo control your drip, you may put a coin in between your thumb as well as your index finger. Try to swing and hit several golf balls while attempting to keep the coin in place. If the coin falls down, most probably it is caused by loosening of your hand grip.

There are other golf drills that can help players in improving the distance, accuracy as well as consistency. Most of these drills are easy to go along and may be practiced in a short and convenient amount of time. Then again, the more your practice, the better you will be at playing the game. Making golf drills is one of the best ways in improving your game in golf.

Golf is a sport that can definitely be improved with a lot of hard work and perseverance. One sure-fire way to improve your game is by perfecting the most important aspect of the game, that is – the golf swing. There several golf swing drills designed to help you with this. If you wish to be better at your golf swing, you really have to work hard for it. The drills presented here will help you do just that as well as allow you to make that extra step in mastering the swing movements as well as the positions and learning them by heart like a true pro.
Inch-By-Inch Drill
This is one of the more common drills suggested by Golf instructors to improve your golf swing. First thing you need to do is to assume your regular golfing stance. Hold the golf club across the shoulders then turn as you try to make a backswing. Let your friend, preferably someone close to you in case he or she gets hit, stand with you at the target line and let him or her tell you if you are truly pointing the club from the ball to about 4 feet beyond. If he or she confirms that you are doing that, it means your shoulders are turning at the proper plane for a swing that is called “one-plane golf swing.”
Inner-Circle Drill
Keep on practicing how to move your hands over the “inner circle”. The hands will remain practically passive in a one-plane swing, the hands must be able to portray a kind of arc in the impact zone. If this arc is inconsistent, the club will follow an inconsistent arc path as well.
Release-Rotation Drill
Contrary to a one-plane swing, in a two-plane swing, there must be a perfectly synchronize release through impact where your right forearm will make a counter clockwise turn above your left arm. In practicing this swing, move a middle iron at the back of the hip height, the club’s toe must be pointing up. Then you should gradually bring the club downwards and slowly twist the right forearm counter clockwise. You should also remember to stop during the impact and check to see if your club’s face is square when compared to the target line. If the clubface is open, rotation is not sufficient. You can do this over and over again until you are finally able to return the clubface squarely to the target line. Then you may continue on upwards until such time that the club will be in line to the ground beyond the zone of impact. This time, the club’s toe should be pointing a little to the left and straight upwards.
The moment you internalize what are the basic skills you need to incorporate in your swing and practice them, you should immediately notice the improvement in the flight of the golf ball. As you practice, your swing is not going to get worse. After practicing on these drills, you will definitely get better, it doesn’t matter if your pace is slow or fast, as long as you are not making backward steps rather, your continually get better at it.

Golf by the pros, as seen on TV, always seems smooth, graceful and very leisurely done. For rookies, the case is completely different. When you had just started playing golf, you would soon realize that it is NOTHING like the ones you see on TV. Before you get there, you will have to trip, fall down, lose a ball and if you’re lucky, you won’t get hit by a club. So, to help jumpstart your golf career, here some golf swing basics.

  1. Pay attention to the rules. And the rule says the only time you need to play the ball on a tee is at beginning of each hole, other than that, it should be played on the ground.
  2. Draw an imaginary line connecting the ball and the hole. This line will help you keep an eye on where you want your ball to land. Then stand on the side of the line that faces the ball.
  3. Remember that your swing forms a CIRCLE, not a line. Your body marks the center of the circle and you arm, along with your club draws the circle as you take a swing.
  4. Your swing is always INCLINED. It cannot be horizontal like a merry-go-round or vertical like a Ferris wheel.
  5. Position your body PARALLEL to the imaginary line. Then, bend your hips to tilt your body so you are closer to the ball. The bending will help in directing the motion of the swing about and down at the proper angle towards the impact zone, the area where your club actually hits the ball.
  6. Make TWO turns. The first turn is a back swing by turning your shoulders on a RIGHT ANGLE until your back is facing the target, this is the “preparatory turn.” The next turn is when your’re ready to turn back and hit the ball, called the “pivot.”
  7. Mind your arms and hands. As you do the “pivot,” place your wrists in an L shaped lever between the lead arm and the club, as if preparing to make a wrist snap. As you swing towards the ball, this “lever” gives an extra force that accelerates the club.
  8. Maintain your posture. Good posture increases the consistency of your shots and helps maintain your balance.

These fundamentals will serve as your guide as you journey towards your golf-playing career. Over the years, you may learn different styles in swinging, different techniques and strategies BUT in golf, there is no better way of succeeding than mastering the golf swing BASICS. With ample practice and perseverance, you’ll soon find yourself playing with the pros on TV!
